Our Story

In 1971, what began in a shoe box as a small organization serving DCPS employees and their families has now grown into a full-service financial institution. Expanding in membership and continuing to grow, we believe one of our biggest strengths has always been placing our members first. We recognize that our success and reputation depend on the effectiveness of our workforce so we listen to our members and seek to provide services that can help enhance personal finances. From the convenience of mobile and remote banking to the endless benefits of free financial literacy tools and courses, we are constantly open, listening to your needs and evolving to create the best overall banking experience. Our credit union is local, not-for-profit, and owned by our members. Members of the community. YOU! As a member, you’ll find our focus is to help you reach your financial goals through our competitive dividend and loan rates and exceptional member service.

We are encouraged by your loyalty as we strive for excellence in security, privacy, member service, and convenience. When you stand behind a credit union, you are standing behind a financial institution that you have ownership in and we wouldn’t be here without you.

Evolution

As we continue to grow, we are excited to show how we’ve been expanding inside our main building by making better use of our space. Check out our new renovated main branch!

The credit union difference

Credit Union Difference

By the People, For the People. The credit union difference sets us apart as all earnings/profits are given back to our members/owners by way of better interest rates, less fees, and convenient services. Seat yourself as a member of change where you can elect volunteer board members who establish policies regarding shares, loans, investments, and general operating procedures. The credit union difference allows you a voice and we always want to hear from you.

Safe & Sound

The NCUA administers the federal insurance fund, NCUSIF, which covers all federal credit unions. Your savings are federally insured for up to $250,000 and backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government.

In addition to this, we are examined by the NCUA, a U.S. government agency that examines all credit unions. No taxpayer money is used for regulating and overseeing federal credit unions. All activities of the NCUA and the NCUSIF are funded by credit unions. Also, the supervisory committee conducts periodic exams of internal procedures including the request of an external audit by an auditing firm.
